SUMMARY:Brown Bag: Strengthening of Concrete Members using Fabric Reinforced Cementitous Matrix
DESCRIPTION:Fabric Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (FRCM) combines high-performance sprayable mortar with a carbon-fiber grid to create thin-walled\, reinforced concrete shells without adding significant weight or mass to the structure. With this system\, you can repair\, protect and strengthen aging\, damaged or overloaded concrete and masonry structures in a single application and at a reduced installation cost.\n\n \n\nSignificant flexural\, axial or shear strength gains can be realized with an easy-to-apply composite. FRCM provides a low-impact\, low-weight alternative to traditional concrete strengthening and retrofit methods. Many times\, it is the most economical strengthening solution available\, given its reduced preparation installation time. \n\n \n\nIn this seminar\, we dive into important considerations including latest industry standards\, material properties and key governing limits when designing with FRCM. We will also highlight/discuss some current FRCM projects and other potential applications for this system.\n\n \n\nSpeaker: Rick Gruye is the Business Segment Manager for Simpson Strong-Tie's Composite Strengthening Systems for the Midwest\, Mid-Atlantic\, and Northeast markets. Rick's primary responsibilities include working with Simpson's technical sales representatives\, field engineers and product specialist in educating\, training\, and supporting design professionals along with installation contractors with the specification\, design\, proper installation\, and field inspection of composite strengthening and repair products for concrete and masonry. He has 19+ years' experience in the construction industry working with structural engineers\, contractors\, and distribution supply channels. Rick is active in many local industry associations including (MCC) Minnesota Concrete Council\, (MNSEA) Minnesota Structural Engineers Association and currently serves on the board of directors for (ICRI/MN) International Concrete Repair Institute Minnesota Chapter.
