SUMMARY:MNSEA Seminar and Trade Show
DESCRIPTION:Rehabilitation of Existing Buildings\n\n \n\nParticipants will benefit from attending the seminar by:\n\n Receiving 3.0 PDH credits.\n\n Phil Waugh Assoc AIA\, explaining the process of assessing an existing structure in preparation for renovation and re-use.\n\n Bob Frame PhD\, presenting the process for designating historic structures and examples of historic concrete repair.\n\n Stacey Keller AIA\, discussing the resources for understanding existing buildings and materials along with strategies to meet modern requirements.\n\n Scott Armbrust PE SE\, describing the process of retrofitting existing steel buildings while highlighting resources.\n\n Learning about recent advances in construction industry from our vendors during breaks for the trade show (29 vendors currently attending).\n\n And much more .\n\nSession 1\n\nAssessing Historic Buildings\n\nby Philip Waugh\, assoc aia\, leed ap \n\nUnderstanding how a building was constructed and the changes that it has undergone over time are vital to being able to properly plan for its future. This session will outline the process to effectively assess historic buildings using archival research\, interviews\, testing\, and on site observations.\n\n \n\nSession 2 \n\nHistoric Designation\, Concrete Repair\, Renovation for Re-use\n\nby Bob Frame\, phd and Stacey Keller\, aia\, ncarb \n\nPart 1: Engineers may be confronted with a building that is designated as a historical building either at the federal level or the local municipal level or both. The processes governing work with each designation type are different and may be confusing. An introduction to each process is outlined along with examples of treatments for historic concrete repair.\n\nPart 2: Owners often desire the aesthetic of historic buildings and original construction materials\, yet demand all of the functions and efficiencies of modern buildings. Achieving this goal requires setting parameters for retention of key historic fabric\, stabilization\, and sensitive replacement of materials when needed. Stacey will discuss the resources\, investigation process\, and strategies for retention and restoration of historic materials concrete\, heavy timber\, and terra cotta - in recent building renovations.\n\n \n\nSession 3\n\nRetrofitting Existing Steel Buildings\n\nby Scott Armbrust\, pe se \n\nThe challenges of retrofitting an existing building can include a daunting list of unknowns ranging from simple matters such as defining existing member locations to the more complex issues of existing material properties and how they behave when welded. This session will explore these and other topics to consider when retrofitting an existing steel building while highlighting various resources that are available to help the structural engineer successfully navigate a retrofit project.\n\n \n\nThe seminar will provide 3.0 PDH credits. Certificates will be distributed at the end of the seminar.\n\n \n\n29 Exhibitors\n\nAmerican Engineering and Testing \n\nArdex Americas\n\nAtlas Foundation Company\n\nAtlas Tube\, JMC Steel Group\n\nConcrete Repair Institute\, MN Chapter\n\nCortec Corporation\n\nDiversified Products\, Helix Steel\n\nEnterprise Fleet Management\n\nEPIC Metals Corporation\n\nErico International (LENTON)\n\nThe Euclid Chemical Company\n\nFabreeka International\n\nFibrwrap\n\nGround Improvement Engineering\n\nHayward Baker\, Inc.\n\nHilti Corporation\n\nInnovative Foundation Supportworks\n\nLeJeune Bolt Company\n\nLiesch\, a Terracon Company\n\nLoucks Associates\n\nPowers Fasteners and Elco\n\nRISA\n\nRosebud Forest Products Company\n\nSidePlate Systems\, Inc.\n\nSimpson Strong-Tie\n\nUSP Structural Connectors\n\nVeit Companies\n\nVulcraft\n\nWells Concrete\n\n\n\nTrade Show\n\nSuppliers from many areas of the construction industry ranging from fabricators to providers of design tools will be available to update us on products and services.
