Built in 1938\, SAFL takes advantage of its unique position near St. Anthony Falls on the Mississippi River to gravitationally divert and direct river water through the building for use in experiments and research. While initially constructed for hydraulic engineering research\, SAFL has expanded its research into fields such as river/stream restoration\, fluvial geomorphology and landscape dynamics\, renewable energy systems (biofuels\, marine hydrokinetic energy\, wind energy)\, cavitation and bubbly flows\, and biochemical processes in aquatic ecosystems.\n\n\n\nDress wisely. SAFL is a fluid mechanics lab\, and you may get dusty\, wet\, or muddy\, and you will definitely be walking a great deal. Please wear closed toed shoes no flip flops or sandals permitted.\n\n\n\nParking is reserved for SAFL personnel only.
